Shelters for waste & recycling

Why we are the specialist

Specialist in waste & recycling

Recycling companies often store different waste streams outdoors. Rain can contaminate materials or cause leaching, making recycling more difficult. At the same time, inspections are placing increasingly strict requirements on the protection of stored materials. A shelter keeps waste streams protected and creates a covered storage area that better meets environmental requirements.

Storage that passes environmental inspections

Waste streams increasingly need to be demonstrably protected against rain and leaching. Inspections focus on the measures you take to prevent contamination. A shelter helps keep materials dry and allows for controlled storage. In many cases, a shelter is considered a Best Available Technique under the duty of care within the BAL. This helps demonstrate during inspections that storage is properly managed.

Installation on concrete walls and containers

Storage bays at recycling sites are often constructed using concrete walls or container setups. A shelter can be installed on both. This creates a covered storage area above existing bays, allowing you to continue using the current site layout without the need for new foundations or structural modifications.

Clearance height for wheel loaders and trucks

On recycling sites, equipment must be able to move freely. Wheel loaders and trucks continuously move in and out of the storage bays to load and unload materials. That’s why various configurations are available with sufficient clearance height. This ensures that loading, unloading, and internal transport can continue smoothly under the shelter.

Structure that keeps rain out of the storage

When storing waste and recycling streams, it is important to keep rainwater out of the shelter as much as possible. That’s why a shelter can be equipped with top walls and a rain gutter. This allows rainwater to be drained in a controlled way, instead of entering the storage area. It helps keep materials as dry as possible and reduces leaching.

Storage of cranes and lifting equipment

VTN in Doetinchem specialises in lifting operations and crane rental. A grey 6 x 6 metre container shelter with saddle roof and back wall is used on site to store cranes and other lifting equipment under cover. The containers form the base of the setup, while the open front keeps the equipment easily accessible. This creates a compact storage area that fits VTN’s day-to-day operations within construction & installation.

Storage of parts and materials

IVECO Schouten specialises in commercial vehicles and trucks and needed additional sheltered storage space on site. Two grey 6 x 6 metre container shelters with saddle roof and back wall were installed between shipping containers. Together, the shelters create 72 m² of additional space for storing materials and parts. This makes practical use of the existing container setup to create extra storage within industry & mining.

Kroftman Shelters for Belgian Defence

Belgian Defence uses several Kroftman shelters for defence in different sizes: 6 x 6, 8 x 6 and 8 x 12 metres. Combining different dimensions allows the shelters to be matched to a range of deployment locations and space requirements. The modular system makes it possible to create additional sheltered space quickly for defence applications. More information about the available versions and developments for defence is available on Kroftman's defence page.

Heavy-duty military shelter

A standard shelter is not always sufficient for the conditions in which Bundeswehr equipment is deployed. That is why a heavy-duty version of the 8 x 6 metre arch-roof shelter was selected, with a reinforced structure developed for higher wind and snow loads. This creates a robust, modular shelter for demanding defence applications. The standard 8 x 6 metre container shelter with an arch roof forms the basis of this version.

Liftcover for military vehicles

The Bundeswehr needed a solution that could move easily between temporary deployment locations. The 6 x 6 metre LiftCover with a saddle roof is assembled entirely at ground level and then raised onto the containers, eliminating the need for an aerial work platform and making relocation easier. The containers can be transported by truck, allowing the shelter to be reused wherever additional covered space is needed. This directly supports the need for rapidly deployable and flexible solutions within defence.

Storage of goods and machinery

As Grondsels grew, it needed additional storage space for stock and equipment on its own site. A 6 x 6 metre Workbox between the containers creates sheltered storage that supports the daily operations of the agricultural and camping shop. Grondsels sells products including electric wheelbarrows and, because of its exposed location in Drenthe, chose a robust solution that can withstand wind and weather. The Grondsels customer story explains more about the choice of the new 6 metre Workbox.

Safe working in coastal areas

For the construction of the Princess Elisabeth Island, Jan De Nul needed a sheltered workplace suited to the harsh conditions in the coastal area. A 6 x 6 metre Workbox was combined with two containers, giving employees dry access to the containers from the covered area. The setup provides additional protection from rain and strong winds and creates a practical workplace at the project location. The customer story about Jan De Nul and the Princess Elisabeth Island explains more about this specially developed Workbox.

Storage of small materials

Equans uses a 4 x 3 metre container shelter with a saddle roof as compact storage for small materials. Covering the space between the containers creates additional material storage without taking up much extra room on the site. The materials remain sheltered while staying easily accessible for daily use.

Loading and modification of vans

Tom-Lock develops and manufactures commercial vehicle interiors and needed additional work and storage space because the existing warehouse was too small. A 4 x 12 metre container shelter with a saddle roof between open-side containers makes practical use of the outdoor area. The open-side containers keep materials easily accessible from the covered area while vans are being fitted out. This creates additional industrial work and storage space beside the existing warehouse.

Mobile workshop at Amsterdam Central Station

During the large-scale renovation of Amsterdam Central Station, additional sheltered workspace was required directly at the project site. A 6 x 6 metre container shelter with a saddle roof, front wall and back wall is used as a temporary workshop. The walls provide additional protection from wind and rain, making work on site less dependent on weather conditions. This application fits well with temporary work and storage space in construction & installation.
