Frequently asked questions
Will a Kroftman shelter fit my containers?
What is the best option to purchase if I don’t have containers yet?
We recommend starting from your desired situation. With our mounting options, you can combine almost endlessly. Combine multiple containers side by side, stacked, placed in a row, combine one container with a side wall, or position the containers with the doors facing inward.
Watch this video for more inspiration.
What options/upgrades are available?
Our shelters are available in 2 standard colors in PE and 3 colors in PVC. Not sure which material to choose? Then watch this video about the differences between PE and PVC.
You can also personalize the shelter with a custom cover, for example with your own logo or branding. For this, watch the video about custom covers.
If you want to fully or partially enclose the shelter, choose a front and/or rear wall.
Want to make sure water stays out of your shelter? Extend the shelter with a gutter. In this video, we explain when this is useful. Already have an existing shelter? Then also check how to apply a gutter afterwards to your current setup.
What is the difference between PE and PVC?
The PVC cover is stronger than PE (polyester or HDPE) and is therefore more resistant to weather conditions. PVC also has a longer lifespan. We offer a declining warranty of 10 years on PVC. The declining warranty for PE is 3 years.
This video explains the differences between the two options.
Is the product strong enough for high wind and/or snow loads?
Yes, our shelters are designed to withstand high wind and snow loads. Depending on the model, the maximum snow load ranges between 0.2 and 0.5 kN/m², and the maximum wind load between 0.3 and 0.665 kN/m².
Our shelters comply with the European standard EN13782, meaning they are calculated for combined wind and snow loads for added safety. In the product specifications, you will find the exact maximum values as defined in the official structural calculations. We explain this in detail in this blog.
Is the cover fire-resistant?
Yes, please note: PVC cover is more fire-resistant than PE cover. In terms of fire safety, PVC clearly has the advantage. Although it is unlikely that both PE and PVC will catch fire, for example when using a grinder, PE will continue to burn once it has ignited. PVC, on the other hand, is flame-retardant and self-extinguishing, which provides additional safety.
What does the EN13782 standard mean for my container shelter?
The European standard EN13782 sets requirements for the design and construction of temporary structures, such as container shelters. This standard ensures that the shelter is safe and stable, even under changing weather conditions. It includes material specifications, calculations for wind and snow loads, stability checks and the strength of connections.
Our products are designed and tested according to this standard. This means you are assured of a safe and reliable shelter that complies with European regulations.
Are structural calculations of the products available?
Yes, the structural calculations of the products can be found in the buildbook. This book contains all technical details and calculations required for the safety and stability of the shelters. You can request the buildbook free of charge, both online and in physical form.
What is the frame made of?
We choose steel for its strength and durability. Steel wears less, is more resistant to the elements and has a longer lifespan. It complies with European standards and is also a more sustainable choice, making it the logical option for reliability and efficiency.
Do I need a permit for my shelter?
In some cases, a permit is required for a shelter. Whether this is the case depends on various factors, such as where and how long the shelter is installed and what it is used for. Check with your local municipality for the applicable requirements.
To support your permit application, we provide the construction drawings and structural calculations of our products free of charge in the form of a buildbook. This book contains all technical details and calculations required for the safety and stability of the shelters. You can request the buildbook free of charge, both online and in physical form.
What are the payment terms?
For orders with a value below €5,000, we require 100% prepayment. For orders with a higher value, it is possible to pay 50% in advance and the remaining 50% upon delivery. Payment on account is possible subject to a positive credit assessment. For this, we work together with Allianz Trade.
My order has been delivered, how can I check if it is complete?
Use the packing list provided to check the contents of your order upon delivery. If you have any doubts about whether everything is included, feel free to contact us.
Where can I find the manual?
A separate installation manual is available for each frame and cover. You can find this manual both in the packaging and online, where it can be downloaded per product.
The distance between the containers differs from the dimensions in the drawing. Can I still install the shelter?
That is possible, but please note that the deviation from the dimensions in the drawing can be a maximum of 3 cm. In the manual, you will find the exact dimensions and an explanation of how to measure them accurately.
Can I still install my shelter if my containers are not at the same height?
It is possible to combine containers with a height difference of up to 20 cm with a shelter. The larger the shelter, the more tolerance is allowed for height differences. Make sure to measure or check the internal distance at the top of the containers to ensure they are positioned correctly. Refer to the installation manual for this.
If you are also using front and rear walls, it is important that the dimensions only differ minimally, otherwise the walls may not fit properly. With only a shelter, the tolerance for deviations is greater, but with walls, precision is essential.
What tools are needed to install a shelter on containers?
In addition to a scissor lift and/or scaffolding, you will need basic tools such as a socket set with a few spanners or an impact drill.
Does a shelter with two covers remain waterproof?
For shelters with a length of 12 meters or more, we supply covers of 6 meters. The design allows these covers to be placed seamlessly on the frame using an overlap. This ensures that the shelter remains waterproof.
How do I install the cover on the frame?
Roll out the cover on the ground and fold it so you can easily unroll it over the frame. Attach the cover on one side on top of the container using a rope. Then throw the rope over the frame to the other side and pull the cover over.
Also refer to the manual for instructions.
What should I do with the packaging?
The covers are packed in boxes, while the frames are delivered in steel and wooden crates. Keep the packaging to store or transport the product again later. If you do not reuse it, the packaging can be disposed of.
What’s the best way to maintain my cover?
Regularly check the tension of the ropes, tension straps and wind bracing, especially after periods of strong wind or heavy snowfall. Remove snow in time to prevent overloading. All of this helps extend the lifespan of your cover.
Can I order spare parts if something breaks on my shelter?
Yes, it is possible to order spare parts if something breaks on your shelter. In most cases, damage to the shelter can be repaired by replacing a specific part. We offer these spare parts in sets. You can download an overview of these additional parts per product from our website. Not sure what the right solution is? Feel free to contact us.
Can I reinstall my shelter on a different type of container?
Yes, our shelters are easy to dismantle and reinstall, also on a different type of container, provided that the correct mounting options are used. If you already know in advance that your setup will change frequently, make sure to keep the crates for easy transport of the components.
View the document here for the correct mounting options for your new situation.
Can I have my company logo printed on the shelter?
Would you like to increase the visibility of your company? Then printing your cover is an excellent option. All shelters can be ordered with a printed cover. You can choose white PVC as the base material. Upon request, you will receive a 3D impression of your design. After order confirmation, we deliver within 4 weeks.
Watch the video about the printed cover here.
Do you have structural calculations available?
Yes, all our standard products are supplied with structural calculations, which are available upon request at no additional cost.
We work with specialized engineers to ensure that all calculations comply with the EN13782 standard. This guarantees broad acceptance in Europe and internationally.
To maintain their legal validity, we only provide these documents in their original German or English version. If needed, you can use these documents as a reference so that a local engineer can prepare a structural calculation that meets the specific requirements of your country.
