What doors can I choose for my storage building?
One of the most important components of a warehouse are the doors. How high and wide should they be, do you want electric operation, and where should the doors be placed? These are decisions you need to make when buying a storage building. For that, you need information about the types of doors available and what they are suitable for. In this blog, we will discuss the doors we sell at Kroftman. For each door, you can read about its function, size, and the advantages and disadvantages of the door.
The three doors that Kroftman offers for your storage building
At Kroftman, we specialize in standardized storage buildings. Our standard storage building comes with a pedestrian door and either a roller door or an overhead door in the front facade. Additionally, we offer some standardized options that allow you to customize your storage building according to your needs. For example, you can extend your storage building or add and relocate doors. Within Kroftman, we have the following three types of doors for your storage building:
1. Pedestrian doors
2. Roller doors
3. Overhead doors
Pedestrian door
1. Pedestrian doors in a Kroftman storage building
Pedestrian doors are intended for people. They are convenient when you need to enter and exit your storage building quickly without having to open a roller or overhead door entirely. This reduces the strain on the components of the roller or overhead door, extending their lifespan. All our storage buildings come standard with one pedestrian door, equipped with a lock with a cylinder key. The door is also suitable for a cylinder lock, which you can install yourself. The dimensions of the pedestrian doors are 210 cm in height and 95 cm in width. These are the so-called daylight dimensions (opening dimensions) of the door.
In the smaller H-series storage buildings, the pedestrian door can be mounted to the left or right of the central roller door as desired. In the larger H-series warehouses, a pedestrian door is possible on both sides. In the E500 series, our smallest storage buildings, the pedestrian door can only be mounted to the right side of the roller door. This is due to the construction of these storage buildings. The door itself can be installed to open left or right as desired.
For our storage buildings in the H-series, you can order extra pedestrian doors. Extra pedestrian doors can almost always be mounted in the rear facade or side walls, wherever you prefer. If you have a large storage building and want to access it from different sides, or if you need a second escape route, an extra pedestrian door is a convenient option for you. The cost for an extra pedestrian door is approximately 800 euros.

2. Roller doors in a Kroftman storage building
A roller door is a door that rolls up into a casing above the doorway. The movement of the door is strictly vertical. A roller door is not insulated. Therefore, we only offer it in combination with a non-insulated storage building. Roller doors are secure and help prevent potential break-ins. The roller doors come with a locking mechanism for a padlock. The padlock itself is not included. Our roller doors are always 275 cm wide. Because the height of the roller door is tailored to the type and dimensions of the storage building, you cannot choose a different height measurement yourself. In the chart below, you can see which size roller door is suitable for each type of storage building. To calculate the clearance height, you need to subtract 10 cm from the height measurement of the roller door. This is because of the handle of the roller door that hangs against the top beam of the door frame when the door is open. Keep this in mind when calculating the clearance height you need. You can order extra roller doors for storage building in our H-series, but not for the E-series. You can choose the location of the extra roller door yourself, depending on the length of the storage building. However, you cannot choose the height measurement of the roller door yourself because we work with standardized sizes. We supply the roller doors without electric operation; you can open and close them manually. However, as an option, you can order an electric motor, including 2 remote controls, for the roller door. The cost for this option is approximately €600.

3. Overhead doors in a Kroftman storage building
An overhead door, also known as an industrial or sectional door, is constructed from wide sections. When opening, these sections are guided overhead by means of a rail system. They then hang horizontally in the space, parallel to the ceiling, above your head. If you have a high storage building, it will not be against the ceiling. You will then have an empty space between the overhead door and the shed’s ceiling. The overhead door comes standard with a simple, manual slide lock that can be attached to the inside of the shed. The latch can be secured with a padlock, which is not included. You can only manually lock or open an overhead door from the inside. This ensures that your storage building is well secured against burglary. However, you will always need a walk-in door or another door to enter your shed and unlock or lock the overhead door from the inside. Unless you order an electric motor, including two remote controls, for the overhead door. In that case, you will need to install electricity in the storage building. The electric motor automatically removes the lock before the door is opened. If you opt for a manually operated overhead door, a spring package above the door allows you to manually open the overhead door, despite its heavy weight.
Overhead doors are insulating and can therefore also be used in an insulated shed. Overhead doors are often used in storage buildings because they are ideal for closing wide passageways. The maximum dimensions of our overhead doors are 415 cm in height and 318 cm in width. We offer the following sizes of overhead doors. However, please note that each storage building type comes with a standard size door. You cannot choose this yourself. Below you can see which doors are suitable for which type of storage building.

The advantages of an overhead door are:
- An overhead door is insulating.
- An overhead door opens completely, allowing you to utilize the full height of the door when driving underneath it. In other words, the daylight opening size is equal to the clearance height.
- Because the door consists of sections, in case of damage, only the damaged element needs to be replaced.
- An overhead door produces less noise than a roller door.
- An overhead door is burglary-resistant because it can only be opened from the inside.
The disadvantages of an overhead door are:
- They cannot be opened from the outside (except with a remote control).
- They are more expensive than, for example, a roller door.
- An overhead door hangs horizontally in the space when open, which means the working height in the storage building cannot be fully utilized (there is an empty space between the door and the storage buidling ceiling).
Can I install multiple overhead doors in my storage building?
You can order additional overhead doors for the storage buildings from our H-series, depending on the length and width of the storage building. For the E-series storage buildings, this is not possible. The location of the additional overhead door can be chosen by yourself, but you need to consider:
- An overhead door or roller door in the side wall cannot be placed in the first or last segment of the storage building.
- An overhead door opens using rails that hang horizontally in the space. Therefore, with certain door position combinations, the guide rails may interfere with each other. You can imagine that if two overhead doors of 4.15 meters high are both open, and thus horizontally attached to the roof, they must not touch each other. An additional overhead door can be installed only from a certain length of the storage building.
It is also worth noting that our overhead doors are delivered without electric drive. It is possible to order an electric motor with two remote controls for the door. Especially if you open and close the overhead door multiple times a day, a remote control is convenient.
Additional attention point for a storage building ewith an overhead door with an electric motor
Installing an overhead door is a specialized task. You can assemble it yourself, but if you are not skilled, you may easily install something incorrectly. If you have ordered an electric motor, the chance of something going wrong is even greater. Installing it requires specialized knowledge. We have instructional videos showing how to install an overhead door. According to the law, you must have an electrically operated industrial door installed by a specialist and the door must be inspected annually. That is also the reason why you receive a sticker with the door after mounting it, indicating the date of the next inspection (1 year after installation). A new sticker is placed on the door after each inspection. If you fail to do this, it is likely that no one will check. However, if an accident occurs with this door because it is not properly maintained, you will be liable. The same applies to our warranty conditions for the door and motor. These remain valid only with correct installation and annual maintenance of the door and motor.
Can I choose the position where the doors will be in my storage building?
In our smallest storage buildings, the E500 series, options are limited. Much more is possible with the H-series. A door has a fixed position in a storage building. This position can be changed. For example, the roller or overhead door can be moved to the side wall. However, the height of the roller or overhead door in a side wall is lower than in a front or back wall. With the side wall, you miss the height of the gable construction that you do have with the front or back wall of the storage building. The number of extra doors, the location, and which doors are possible depend on the size of your warehouse and whether it is insulated or not. To know exactly what is possible, we recommend filling out the quotation tool. With this, you can customize the storage building of your desires. You will immediately see what is possible and what any additional costs are. You enter your postal code and email address, and the quotation will be emailed directly to you. All this is entirely non-binding, and you can request as many quotations as you like. You will receive the desired information from us by email, and then we will not send you any more emails.
Can I install a higher or wider roller or overhead door in the storage building?
Our storage buildings are standardized. This means that the optimal dimensions of the door are taken into account in the design of the storage building. Therefore, a wider or higher door is not possible. If you want to install a different roller door yourself in the E500 series storage buildings, we can deliver the complete storage building without a roller door, but with the hole for the roller door in it. You can then order a roller door yourself from another supplier and install it in your storage building. This may have consequences for the warranty, so discuss this with us beforehand. It is also not possible in the H-series storage buildings to install a wider roller or overhead door. Do you still want to install a higher roller or overhead door? Then you will have to do this yourself, although we do not advise it. You will thereby affect the frame of the storage building, which has implications for safety. In that case, we advise you to opt for a custom storage building from a supplier specialized in this.
Can I order a storage building without a roller or overhead door?
That is possible. The opening for the roller or overhead door is then closed, and only a pedestrian door is in the storage building. You can also omit all doors and place your own door in your storage building. In that case, we can deliver a fully enclosed storage building in which you make the opening for this door yourself. It is also possible to indicate the location(s) of the doors in our quotation tool. Then we deliver a storage building with a door opening based on our standardized daylight dimensions. The costs of our door that you omit will be deducted from the total amount of the storage building.
Will I receive a new construction drawing if I change the location or number of doors?
Our construction drawings are based on the standard layout, with the overhead or roller door placed in the front wall, alongside a pedestrian door and a fully covered hall. To avoid misunderstandings about your wishes, you will always receive a so-called wireframe model drawing for confirmation in advance. This wireframe model drawing is created for each order and presented to you for approval.
