Applications of Shelters in the
Construction and Installation Sector

Companies in the construction and installation industry are increasingly facing stricter requirements regarding safety, sustainability, and efficiency. Certifications such as BREEAM demand covered storage for materials, while construction sites are becoming more challenging in practice, with limited space in city centers, tighter environmental regulations for material disposal, and constant pressure from tight schedules. Projects proceed in phases, locations change, and there is a constant need for quick, flexible solutions.

For years, we’ve seen our shelters used across this sector, not only as workspaces but also to protect construction materials and machinery. In this blog, we’ll discuss the most common challenges and show how shelters offer effective solutions.

Almost every client we speak to shares the same need: avoiding unnecessary downtime. Projects must keep moving, regardless of rain or wind. With a shelter, companies can protect their construction site from weather conditions while also complying with regulations.

How do construction companies use shelters?

  • Dry storage for building materials such as cement, steel, and wood, so quality is preserved and delays caused by wet or contaminated materials are avoided.

  • Protection of machinery and tools, reducing wear and theft while preventing costly interruptions.

  • Flexibility in use, as a container shelter can be easily assembled, dismantled, and relocated to another phase or project site.

  • Support for certification, such as BREEAM, since covered storage is increasingly required under sustainability and environmental policies.

  • More efficient workplaces, with covered areas for preparation or breaks, allowing staff to work in a safer and more comfortable environment.

  • Prevention of logistical delays, as materials and components remain protected under a shelter, keeping workflows steady even in bad weather.

  • Reduction of environmental risks, such as runoff from debris or contaminated soil, helping companies avoid fines or warnings from inspectors.

A Sector Favorite

In practice, we’ve noticed that two models are especially popular within the construction and installation sector. Both address everyday on-site challenges, but in different ways.

The CTS606 has been one of the most popular solutions for years. It’s compact and practical yet large enough to serve as a sawing shed, a transfer area for materials, or a dry space for machinery. Most construction sites already have containers, adding a shelter above them instantly creates a practical workspace or storage area. With front and rear walls, or a gable top, the space remains protected even in wind and rain.

What Does This Look Like in Practice?

Flexible storage for infrastructure projects – ImaR Infra
ImaR Infra is a small family business specializing in earthworks, road, and water construction. Owners Mieke Kleijburg and her husband work alongside their employee, Kevin. Often, all three are working on different projects simultaneously. This means they need a lot of equipment, preferably kept as close to the job site as possible. “When it’s stored farther away, it’s inconvenient to keep driving back and forth,” says Mieke.

Their solution was a CTS606 mounted on two 20 ft containers. This created a spacious, dry storage and lunch area directly on the construction site. The equipment remains accessible and well-protected.

For ImaR Infra, flexibility is key. Both the containers and the shelter can be easily relocated. “With a permanent shed or rented facility, you’re tied to one spot. Now, we can take everything down and set it up somewhere else,” says Mieke. For a small company with multiple projects running at once, that makes a big difference.

A showcase on the construction site – Burglandbouw
At Burglandbouw, our shelters are also a standard feature on-site, used for material storage during the construction of a new swimming pool or as a sawing shed at an apartment complex project.

Burglandbouw adds a personal touch. With a printed cover, the shelter reflects their corporate branding. This transforms the structure into not just a practical workspace or storage facility, but also a visible promotional tool. The construction site becomes a true calling card, residents and passersby can instantly see who’s carrying out the work.
