Placing a storage buidling on your own piece of land isn't feasible for everyone. Especially for individuals or small businesses, space can be limited. Our smallest storage building, in terms of square meters, is the H606. It is 6 meters wide and 5.8 meters long. You need a minimum of (6m x 5.8m =) 35 m2 of space for this storage building. And that's without considering the requirements for space around the storage building. Therefore, we have developed a tool for you to see how a storage building fits on your plot. You can read more about it in this blog:

  • How does the tool 'Discover if your desired storage buidling fits on your plot' work?
  • What requirements are there for the free space around the storage building?

How does the tool 'Discover if your desired storage building fits on your plot' work?

We have specifically developed a tool for our storage buildings that allows you to place one of our storage buildings, with your desired dimensions, on your plot. This tool works with Google Maps. You search for your plot and place the storage building on it. Then you can position the storage building anywhere you like, rotate it, etc. This way, you get a much better idea of the possibilities and what is convenient for your location. Below are the five steps for using this tool:

1. Open the tool by clicking on the banner. Enter your address in 'Find your location.' You will then see your plot appear.

2. Drag the plot well and zoom in as desired.

3. At the green arrows in the blue square, you enter the desired width, length, and height of the storage building.

4. The storage building appears as a green rectangle on your plot. You can rotate and drag the storage building to the desired location on your plot. You can rotate the storage building with the blue arrows.

5. If the dimensions and location are to your liking, you can save a photo of the image and download it. You can then click on the shopping cart to directly see suitable storage buildings on our website. Here you can request a non-binding quote that you will receive directly in your mailbox. This way, you quickly and conveniently have all the information at hand.

What requirements are there for the free space around the storage building?

When placing the storage building on your plot, it is advisable to ensure that there is sufficient free space around the storage building. Space is needed for the construction of the storage building and to comply with laws and regulations. Consider, for example:

1. The distance between the storage building and the property line
An important requirement from the Building Decree to consider is that of fire safety. Our storage buildings do not have fire-resistant facades. This is also not mandatory under the Building Decree for buildings with a 'light industrial function.' However, a safe distance from the property line must be maintained to prevent a fire from spreading. To avoid this, the radiation from a fire on the opposite buildings must not exceed 15 kW/m2.

PH Bouwadvies has performed a so-called 'radiation calculation' for our storage buildings to calculate a safe distance from the property line. According to the calculation by PH Bouwadvies, in the event of a fire in a Kroftman storage building, the radiation value on the opposite facade from 3 meters from the property line is 14.39 kW/m2. This is less than the maximum of 15 kW/m2. In other words, if you place a Kroftman storage building 3 meters from the property line, no further requirements regarding the fire resistance of the facade are imposed.

You must always adhere to this minimum distance from the property line. Also, consider the rights of your neighbors when building or renovating. For example, you may not infringe on the privacy of your neighbors. Therefore, you are not allowed to place a window or door within 2 meters of the property line.

These distances from the property line cannot be seen well in our tool. If you really want to make a site plan, you can use a website like Planviewer. Here you can download a site plan of your plot for about 20 euros. You draw the object you want to place, in this case, the storage building, to scale.

2. The required space to construct the storage building
There must always be at least 150 cm of free space around the entire storage building. This is due to safety requirements. A mobile scaffold is required for construction at height. To place a mobile scaffold, a minimum of 150 cm of space is required.

We hope the above information helps you make an informed decision. If you want to know exactly what the storage building of your choice costs, please fill in our quotation tool without obligation. We ask you to enter your postal code to calculate the transport costs of your storage building. Once you have requested the quote, you will receive your login details for your personal Kroftman page within minutes. Here you will find the quote with the total price including any transport costs.

You can create multiple quotes and check various options. This way, you can compare them effectively.
