Forbo Eurocol Nederland B.V. has a remarkable history. They originally started as a by-products factory for the Linoleum factory in Krommenie, producing adhesives among other products. As the use of concrete in construction increased in the Netherlands during the 1960s and 1970s, Eurocol cleverly capitalized on this trend. They developed a permanently elastic tile adhesive that ensured tiles remained securely attached despite concrete's movement. Thus, the ready-to-use elastic wall tile adhesive was born. Still one of Eurocol's best-selling products today. A good solution to a problem is also what Engel Zonneveld, project leader and engineer at Forbo Eurocol, was looking for when he purchased an E509 storage building from Kroftman.

The problem

Engel: 'We produce water-based tile adhesives. We need to clean the process tanks in which we make these adhesives every so often to remove the adhesive residues. We used to clean this water with a centrifuge, but this consumed a lot of energy. A better solution was to manually add flocculant to the dirty process water and let it stand for a while. The adhesive flakes would then settle to the bottom, and the clean water would rise to the top. We then pour the water through large filter bags and discharge the filtered, clean water into the sewer system. We needed a covered space for this where we could place six large filter bags. It was a temporary enclosure, so it couldn't cost too much. Also, the enclosure had to be placed on the current surface of stelcon plates.'

Three potential solutions

Forbo Eurocol wanted a temporary solution to avoid the need for an environmental permit. This would also give them time to consider another permanent solution. Initially, Engel saw three potential solutions to his problem: renting temporary storage, installing a storage tent, or exploring second-hand options. Engel: 'From experience, we know that renting external storage is expensive. I seriously considered the option of a tent. The problem with that is you have to heat the tent in winter to prevent snow from accumulating on the tent fabric, which can cause it to tear. Second-hand turned out not to be an option because you're dependent on what's available at the time in terms of size.' The above three solutions were not ideal. Engel quickly turned to a self-build storage building.

The search for a self-build storage building

Today, the search for a product or supplier almost always starts online. Engel also searched the internet for a storage building provider. Engel: 'When you search the internet for a storage building, you quickly come across Kroftman. You're doing that really well. A second plus point is Kroftman's website. All the information you're looking for is easy to find. In our case, that was information about dimensions and prices. You quickly know if what's possible fits into your plans. Fortunately, that was the case for us. I did look at other providers, but because Kroftman seemed so good and affordable, I didn't spend much time on them.'

The purchase and construction of the storage building

Eventually, Engel settled on Kroftman's E509 storage building. After presenting this internally, Engel made the purchase. No environmental permit was required to temporarily place this storage building. The whole process, from identifying the problem to deciding to buy a self-build storage building from Kroftman, took only one month. 'Ordering was easy via the website. I only had one phone call with Kroftman. The storage building was delivered to us about six weeks later. We hired a contractor to build the storage building for us. They spent about four days here with two people. The tricky part was that the stelcon plates weren't level. This meant they spent some time filling in gaps to make the base rail level. Perhaps Kroftman could develop something for that. A kind of rigid foam for under the rails to level them in case of unevenness. Apart from that, everything went smoothly, including the contact with Kroftman.'

End result

The storage building has been at Forbo Eurocol for two years now. Engel is satisfied with the end result. 'In the meantime, we're working on improving the process of cleaning the process tanks. Our main building is also being reorganized. With a different cleaning procedure and space in our main building, we probably won't need the storage building in about two years. But for now, it's still there, and we're happy about that. It has relieved the pressure, allowing us to renovate calmly and experiment with improving the cleaning process.'

Contact with Kroftman

The contact with Kroftman was pleasant. 'I would describe Kroftman as professional, clear, and straightforward. Especially the website is pleasant. You get where you want to go right away. I would also recommend others to work with Kroftman. Although that depends on what you're looking for, of course. For us, the low price was decisive, as well as the fact that the storage building could be placed on the existing stelcon plates. If that's also what you're looking for, then Kroftman is definitely a good choice in my opinion.' A solid organization, that's the impression Engel had of Kroftman based on the website. 'Correct, we bought the storage building unseen based on the information on the website and one phone call. I didn't really worry about it. The way Kroftman presents itself gave me a good feeling. And they delivered on that promise.'
