World's first: Jan De Nul Contributes to the Princess Elisabeth Island

AEB, Amsterdam's waste processing company, is a key player in the waste and recycling industry. From their location in Amsterdam, they process an impressive 1.4 million tons of waste annually, not only from the region but from all over Europe. Their goal is to produce energy from waste in a sustainable and clean manner by extracting as many reusable materials as possible from the waste. What remains is burned as efficiently as possible and converted into heat and electricity for the city. This approach requires precise management of every part of the process, including the safe and sustainable storage of residual products.
AEB was looking for a suitable solution for storing residual products that are generated during the waste processing process. These residual products, stored in big bags, must be kept dry, as they can be harmful when exposed to air and moisture. At the same time, it is important that the storage space remains easily accessible for forklifts to move the pallets with bags easily when they need to be transported to other locations.
The solution was found in our container shelters. AEB chose four of our arched roof shelters, each measuring 8 meters wide by 12 meters. These container shelters comply with the strict European standard EN13782, making them not only reliable but also ensuring safety and stability under severe weather conditions.
The four shelters placed side by side provide sufficient space to safely store over 200 big bags on pallets, protecting the bags from rain and other weather conditions. The choice for the arched roof variant offers additional benefits, as the design ensures a high clearance height and ample space for forklifts to move the bags easily.
To further minimize the risk of rain ingress, a back wall was chosen for the shelters, providing extra protection against rain penetration. This way, the residual products can be stored safely and efficiently, without risk of damage from moisture.
