The warm summer months are behind us, and winter is approaching. For some, this is a blessing, while for others, it might be less so. However, what we all fear this winter is a high energy bill. If it's important for you to maintain a pleasant and constant indoor temperature in your storage building during both the warm summer and cold winter months, what can you do? In this blog, we provide you with eight tips to regulate the indoor temperature in your storage building without incurring a high energy bill.

Tip 1: Invest in an insulated storage building

The biggest advantage of an insulated storage building is that you can maintain the temperature inside your storage building as constant as possible. If you spend a lot of time in the storage building or store items there that are sensitive to frost or high temperatures, then an insulated storage building is the best choice. With insulation, you can heat the storage building during cold weather without the warmth dissipating immediately as in an uninsulated storage building. Additionally, an insulated storage building will take on the outdoor temperature less quickly. This is especially beneficial when the weather outside is extremely hot or cold. Because the indoor climate is better controlled and there are fewer significant temperature fluctuations, an insulated storage building is less prone to condensation.

Tip 2: Don't leave storage building doors open all day

You may not think about it, but if you leave the overhead or roller door of your storage building open all day, the storage building will quickly take on the outdoor temperature. To prevent this, consider purchasing an electric motor with 2 remote controls, which makes opening and closing the doors easier.

Tip 3: Keep your storage building well stocked

This may sound strange, but an empty storage building will quickly take on the outdoor temperature. If you have many items stored in the storage building that need to be kept at the right temperature, these items act as a buffer and help maintain the temperature.

Tip 4: Opt for a light color for your storage building

Houses in warm countries are often white, and people often wear light-colored clothing. White has the property of reflecting sunlight, while black absorbs sunlight. A black surface will therefore become warm in the sun more quickly. If you want to keep your storage building as cool as possible in the summer, it's best to choose roof and wall cladding in the lightest possible color.

Tip 5: Be mindful when ventilating your storage building

Occasionally refreshing the air in the storage building is pleasant, especially if you are frequently present there. In an insulated storage building, you can do this by opening the doors. Pay attention to the outdoor temperature. In the summer months, you want to ventilate in the early morning or late evening when the air is cooler. In the winter months, don't keep the doors open too long, but do provide the storage building with fresh air. Dry, fresh air heats up faster than old, humid air. This is important if you use heating in your storage building.

Tip 6: Opt for lamps instead of skylights in your storage building

We typically supply a storage building with some skylights in the roof for daylight entry. These skylights are less insulating and will allow heat or cold to pass through more quickly than regular roof panels. To prevent heat from escaping through the roof, you can choose to omit the skylights and install electricity in your storage building for artificial lighting.

Tip 7: Heat your storage building in the winter

If you have installed electricity in your storage building for lighting, you can also consider heating the storage building in the winter. The electricity consumption will increase, so only do this in an insulated storage building and if it is really necessary. In an uninsulated storage building, the heat will quickly dissipate, and heating will be of little use. To keep your energy use affordable, we have one last tip for you.

Tip 8: Install solar panels on the roof of your storage building

You can (have) solar panels installed on the roof of your storage building. The roof of a storage building offers a lot of space and is often conveniently located, with few obstacles blocking the sun. In almost all cases, solar panels can be easily attached to the roof. Kroftman does not supply or install solar panels ourselves. You can approach a solar panel supplier for this. There are a few things to consider when installing solar panels. You can read more about this in this blog.
